La película Everything Everywhere All at Once se alzó con 5 galardones y venció con rotundidad en los premios Critics Choice Awards 2023.
La cinta creada por Daniel Kwan y Daniel Scheinert -conocidos coloquialmente como “Los Daniels”- llegaba como la más nominada con 14 candidaturas.
En concreto, se embolsó los premios a mejor película, mejor director, mejor guion original, mejor edición o montaje y mejor actor secundario por la interpretación de Ke Huy Quan.

Los Critics Choice Awards son unos reconocimientos concedidos por la Asociación de Críticos de Estados Unidos y Canadá (CCA, por sus siglas en inglés), en representación de más de 600 periodistas especializados en el sector del entretenimiento.
Las grandes decepciones de la noche fueron The Fabelmans -el drama autobiográfico de Steven Spielberg dirigido por él mismo- y The Banshees of Inisherin (Almas en Pena de Inisherin, en español) que habían deslumbrado en los Globos de Oro y partían como favoritas, junto a Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Sin embargo, mientras que la película de Spielberg tuvo que conformarse con el premio a mejor actor joven para el canadiense Gabriel LaBelle, The Banshees of Inisherin ni siquiera fue elegida para ninguna de las 9 categorías a las que se postulaba.
Asimismo, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mistery, la segunda entrega del thriller obra de Rian Johnson, se impuso de forma sorpresiva en los apartados de mejor película de comedia y en el de mejor reparto, que se desvelaron minutos antes de que comenzara la emisión televisada.
La gala, conducida por la actriz y escritora estadounidense Chelsea Handler, se celebró en el hotel Fairmont Century Plaza (Los Ángeles), que también acoge habitualmente otras citas cinematográficas de relumbrón como los premios del Sindicato de Actores (SAG Awards en inglés) o los Globos de Oro.
La cita de este domingo tuvo como momento más emotivo la recogida del premio a mejor actor de Brendan Fraser (The Whale), que rompió a llorar en el escenario por este éxito tras años en el ostracismo de la industria de Hollywood y después de haber superado una depresión.
La australiana Cate Blanchett (Tár) certificó que camina con paso firme hacia su tercer Óscar, ganando en la categoría de mejor actriz después de hacer lo propio esta semana en los Globos de Oro.
En el apartado de mejor filme internacional, la producción india RRR (Netflix) venció a Argentina, 1985 (Amazon Prime Video), la película latina que partía como gran favorita y que había salido reforzada de los premios que concede la Asociación de la Prensa Extranjera de Hollywood.
RRR también triunfó en la categoría de mejor canción con el tema Naatu Naatu y se consagró como una de las campanadas de la tarde, ya que incluso estuvo nominada a mejor película y el cineasta Koduri Srisaila Sri Rajamouli a mejor director.
Finalmente, el tímido acento latino de esta entrega de los Critics Choice Awards 2023 se redujo a la victoria del mexicano Guillermo del Toro, en la categoría de mejor película de animación por Pinocchio.
Abbott Elementary y Better Call Saul sin rivales en TV
Abbott Elementary (ABC) y la sexta temporada de Better Call Saul (AMC) se presentaban con la vitola de máximas aspirantes para las categorías televisivas más importantes, con 6 y 5 nominaciones respectivamente, y no defraudaron.
La Asociación de Críticos de EEUU y Canadá encumbró a Abbot Elementary (Colegio Abbot, en español) como mejor serie de comedia y también reconoció a su actriz Sheryl Lee Ralph como mejor intérprete secundaria en dicho género.
Esta producción ya había triunfado anteriormente en los Globos de Oro y en los últimos Emmy.
Better Call Saul se coronó como mejor serie de drama con su figura Bob Odenkir alzándose con el galardón de mejor actor protagonista y con Giancarlo Esposito triunfando como mejor actor de reparto.
Por su parte, The Dropout (Hulu) fue condecorada como mejor miniserie y su protagonista, Amanda Seyfried, fue reconocida como mejor actriz principal de este formato por su papel encarnando a Elizabeth Holmes, fundadora de la empresa tecnológica Theranos.
Tras los Critics Choice, la temporada de premios continuará con las galas del sindicato de actores y productores de Hollywood, el fin de semana del 25 y 26 de febrero, para rematar el 12 de marzo con la 95 edición de los Óscar.
